
Tokyo Stock Exchange
The Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE or TYO), commonly referred to as Tosho, is a prominent stock exchange based in Tokyo, Japan. It ranks as the third-largest stock exchange globally by the total market capitalization of its listed companies and holds the distinction of being the largest in Asia. As of February 2019, the TSE hosted 2,292 listed companies with a combined market capitalization of approximately $5.67 trillion USD.
The exchange operates under the ownership of the Japan Exchange Group (JPX), a publicly traded holding company (TYO: 8697). JPX was established through the merger of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the Osaka Exchange. The merger process began in July 2012 following approval by the Japan Fair Trade Commission and culminated with the launch of JPX on January 1, 2013.
