SoftBank Group Corp. is a Japanese multinational conglomerate holding company based in Tokyo. The company has significant investments in a diverse range of industries, including telecommunications, technology, finance, and e-commerce. Notable holdings include SoftBank Corp., SoftBank Vision Fund, Arm Holdings, Fortress Investment Group, Boston Dynamics, Sprint, Alibaba, Yahoo Japan, Uber, Didi Chuxing, Paytm, OYO, WeWork, Slack Technologies, and many others. SoftBank also operates Vision Fund, the world’s largest technology-focused venture capital fund, with more than $100 billion in capital.
Founded by Masayoshi Son, SoftBank has expanded its operations across broadband, fixed-line telecommunications, technology services, finance, media and marketing, semiconductor design, and more. It is recognized as the 36th largest public company globally according to the Forbes Global 2000 list and is Japan’s second-largest publicly traded company, following Toyota.
SoftBank’s logo is inspired by the flag of the Kaientai, a naval trading company founded by Sakamoto Ryōma in 1865. While it is not officially aligned with any traditional keiretsu, SoftBank maintains strong ties with Mizuho Financial Group, its primary lender.
