Palantir Technologies Inc.

Palantir Technologies, a publicly traded American company, specializes in big data analytics and is headquartered in Denver, Colorado. Founded in 2003 by Peter Thiel, Nathan Gettings, Joe Lonsdale, Stephen Cohen, and Alex Karp, the company’s name originates from J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, where the palantíri were mystical “seeing-stones” that allowed users to communicate and observe distant events.

Palantir is best known for its three flagship platforms: Palantir Gotham, Palantir Apollo, and Palantir Foundry. Palantir Gotham serves counter-terrorism analysts within the United States Intelligence Community (USIC) and the Department of Defense. In the past, it supported fraud investigations for the now-defunct Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board and cyber analysts at the Information Warfare Monitor, a Canadian public-private initiative.

Palantir Apollo functions as an operating system for seamless software deployment and continuous delivery across diverse environments. It is one of only five Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offerings approved by the US Department of Defense for Mission Critical National Security Systems (IL5).

Palantir Foundry caters to corporate clients, including major names like Morgan Stanley, Merck KGaA, Airbus, Wejo, Lilium, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. This platform provides organizations with tools to integrate, manage, and analyze vast datasets effectively.

Initially focused on serving federal agencies within the USIC, Palantir has significantly broadened its customer base. Today, it collaborates with state and local governments and serves private-sector clients in financial services, healthcare, and other industries.
