The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), commonly known as “The Big Board,” is a leading American stock exchange situated at 11 Wall Street in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It holds the title of the world’s largest stock exchange by market capitalization, with its listed companies valued at approximately $30.1 trillion as of February 2018. In 2013, the NYSE recorded an average daily trading value of $169 billion. Its trading floor, located at 11 Wall Street, consists of 21 rooms facilitating trading activities. A former trading room at 30 Broad Street was decommissioned in February 2007. The NYSE’s iconic main building and the adjacent 11 Wall Street structure were designated as National Historic Landmarks in 1978.

The NYSE is currently owned by Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), an American holding company that is also publicly traded on the NYSE (NYSE: ICE). Previously, it was part of NYSE Euronext (NYX), created by the 2007 merger of the NYSE with Euronext.

Over the years, the NYSE has faced several lawsuits, including claims of fraud and breach of duty. In 2004, its former CEO sued the exchange for breach of contract and defamation.
