Monese
Monese is a UK-based financial services company that offers current accounts and money transfer solutions as an alternative to traditional banking.
Founded by Estonian entrepreneur Norris Koppel, Monese was inspired by Koppel’s personal experience of being denied a current account in the UK due to a lack of local proof of address and a credit history. This challenge led him to create a banking service that would be inclusive, offering accounts without the barriers of residency or credit history.
Monese launched its first product—a mobile current account—on September 21, 2015, in the UK. Before its official launch, over 56,000 customers had pre-registered and joined a waiting list for the service. The account opening process is simple and can be completed in under three minutes via a smartphone, allowing both residents and non-residents to access banking services.
