Mizuho Financial Group, Inc. (MHFG), commonly referred to as Mizuho, is a prominent banking holding company based in the Ōtemachi district of Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. The name “Mizuho” (瑞穂) translates to “abundant rice” or symbolizes “harvest” in a broader sense. At its inception, Mizuho was the world’s largest bank by assets.

The group manages over $1.8 trillion in assets through its subsidiaries, including Mizuho Bank, making it Japan’s second-largest financial services group after Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group and the 14th largest globally by total assets as of December 2017. According to Forbes’ May 2017 rankings, Mizuho is the 90th largest company worldwide. Its primary stock listing is on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
