JPMorgan Chase

J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. is a leading American multinational investment bank and financial services firm based in New York City. Incorporated in Delaware, JPMorgan Chase is the largest bank in the United States and, as of 2018, ranks as the sixth largest bank globally by total assets, amounting to $2.534 trillion. It is also the world’s most valuable bank by market capitalization.

As a “Bulge Bracket” bank, JPMorgan Chase is a key player in investment banking and financial services, and is one of the “Big Four” banks in the U.S. alongside Bank of America, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo. The company operates as a universal and custodian bank, with the J.P. Morgan brand used for its investment banking, asset management, private banking, private wealth management, and treasury & securities services divisions. Fiduciary services within private banking and wealth management are carried out under JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. The Chase brand, on the other hand, is used for credit card services, retail banking, and commercial banking in the U.S. and Canada.

J.P. Morgan Chase was formed in 2000 when Chase Manhattan Corporation merged with J.P. Morgan & Co. Its headquarters and retail banking operations are located at 270 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, New York City.

As of 2017, JPMorgan Chase ranks among the world’s largest asset management firms, with $2.789 trillion in assets under management and $30 trillion in assets under custody. Its hedge fund division, with $47.7 billion in assets under management, is the fourth largest hedge fund in the U.S.

Jamie Dimon serves as the Chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase. His leadership was instrumental during the 2008 financial crisis, where JPMorgan Chase successfully rescued two major banks. Dimon, who became CEO in 2005, was initially brought on through JPMorgan Chase’s acquisition of Bank One in 2004. Though Dimon has publicly criticized U.S. immigration policies, his company has investments in Sterling Construction, the firm contracted to build part of the U.S.-Mexico border wall, valued at $1.6 million as of July 2018.
