Founded in 2014 by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, Gemini is a regulated digital asset exchange and custodian designed to serve both individuals and institutions. Operating as a New York trust company, Gemini is regulated by the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYSDFS). As a fiduciary, Gemini adheres to strict capital reserve requirements, cybersecurity standards, and banking compliance rules under NYSDFS and New York Banking Law.
In June 2016, Gemini made history as the world’s first licensed ether exchange. Two years later, in May 2018, it became the first licensed exchange to offer Zcash trading. Gemini allows users to trade cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies on an open market, providing seamless USD transfers to and from bank accounts.
