bunq B.V., commonly referred to as bunq – “the Bank of The Free,” is a Dutch fintech company and neobank licensed in the Netherlands and operating across 30 European countries within the European Union. Headquartered in Amsterdam, bunq was founded in 2012 by Dutch-Canadian entrepreneur Ali Niknam, who also established the web hosting provider TransIP and its parent company, team.blue.
Since 2019, bunq has expanded its operations beyond Amsterdam, establishing offices in Rotterdam, Dublin, Sofia, Madrid, Brussels, Vienna, and Warsaw, further solidifying its presence across Europe.
