Block Inc.
Block, Inc., an American multinational technology conglomerate, was founded in 2009 by Jack Dorsey and Jim McKelvey, launching its first platform in 2010. The company has been publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange since November 2015 under the ticker symbol SQ.
Previously known as Square, Inc. until December 10, 2021, the company still operates its flagship product, Square, which is a payment platform designed for small and medium-sized businesses. Square enables businesses to accept credit card payments and use smartphones or tablets as point-of-sale systems. In addition to Square, Block encompasses several other ventures, including Cash App, a mobile app for peer-to-peer and business payments; Afterpay, a buy-now-pay-later service; Weebly, a web hosting service; and Tidal, a subscription-based streaming platform offering music, podcasts, and video content.
