Ant Group, previously known as Ant Financial and Alipay, is an affiliate of China’s Alibaba Group and is recognized as the world’s most valuable FinTech company. With a valuation of $150 billion, it also holds the title of the most valuable unicorn startup globally.
In March 2019, The Wall Street Journal highlighted that Ant Group’s flagship product, the Tianhong Yu’e Bao money-market fund, had become the largest in the world. This was made possible by over 588 million users of Ant’s Alipay mobile payments network, representing more than one-third of China’s population.
