Afterpay Limited
Afterpay Limited is an Australian financial technology company renowned for its buy now, pay later (BNPL) service. Operating across Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, and New Zealand, Afterpay was founded in 2014 by Nick Molnar and Anthony Eisen.
In June 2017, Afterpay merged with its technology supplier, Touchcorp, forming the Afterpay Touch Group. The company later rebranded as Afterpay Limited in November 2019.
In August 2021, Afterpay announced a landmark deal with American payments giant Square, Inc. (now Block, Inc., as of December 2021), under which Square would acquire Afterpay for $29 billion USD (39 billion AUD). The acquisition was finalized on January 31, 2022, marking one of the largest fintech deals in history.
