Adobe Inc. is an American multinational software company based in San Jose, California. Originally focused on multimedia and creativity software, Adobe has more recently expanded into digital marketing software. The company is best known for its flagship products, including Adobe Flash, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Acrobat Reader, the Portable Document Format (PDF), Adobe Creative Suite, and its successor, Adobe Creative Cloud.
Founded in December 1982 by John Warnock and Charles Geschke, Adobe was established after the two left Xerox PARC to develop and sell the PostScript page description language. In 1985, Apple Computer licensed PostScript for use in its LaserWriter printers, a key development that helped ignite the desktop publishing revolution.
As of 2022, Adobe employs over 26,000 people globally, with about 40% of its workforce based in San Jose. The company also has significant development operations in Newton, Massachusetts; New York City; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Lehi, Utah; Seattle, Washington; and San Francisco, California, as well as in Noida and Bangalore, India.
