Metaplanet Expands Bitcoin Holdings With $13.5M Purchase and Bond Issuance

Japanese hospitality firm Metaplanet (3350) has strengthened its Bitcoin (BTC) reserves, acquiring 162 BTC for $13.5 million at an average price of $83,123 per coin. This latest investment has contributed to a year-to-date BTC yield of 53.2%.

The BTC yield reflects the percentage change in the ratio of Bitcoin holdings to fully diluted shares outstanding over a set period. As of March 12, Metaplanet’s total Bitcoin holdings stand at 3,050 BTC, valued at approximately $253.7 million, with an average purchase price of $83,180 per coin.

To fund additional BTC acquisitions, the company has issued 2 billion JPY ($13.5 million) in zero-interest ordinary bonds. Meanwhile, Metaplanet’s stock was trading at 3,630 yen at the time of writing, marking a nearly 50% decline from its all-time high in February.
