Metaplanet Secures $26M in Bond Raise, Set to Join MSCI Japan Index to Expand Bitcoin Holdings
Japanese Bitcoin-focused firm Metaplanet (3350) is set to be added to the Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) Japan Index on February 28, according to CEO Simon Gerovich.
The MSCI Japan Index, which tracks mid-to-large-cap Japanese stocks, is a key benchmark for institutional investors worldwide. Inclusion in the index is expected to bring increased visibility, passive capital inflows, and broader market validation for Metaplanet. The exposure could also attract global investment funds and ETFs that follow MSCI indices.
Gerovich took to X to highlight the significance of this milestone, emphasizing how it reinforces Metaplanet’s position as Asia’s leading Bitcoin Treasury company while enhancing its presence in global markets.
In addition to the index inclusion, Metaplanet has successfully raised $26 million (4 billion yen) through the issuance of 0% unsecured, unguaranteed ordinary bonds. The company confirmed that the proceeds will be used to acquire more Bitcoin (BTC) as part of its treasury strategy.
